With improper warm-up I never got my heart rate, lungs and legs ready for the high output. So my breathing was way out of whack, I kind of made the mistake thinking this race was going to be South Jersey flat, LOL! There was nothing huge but was not flat either... Being out in the open country roads/fields I would get gusts of wind that push you around a bit especially when you were not expecting anything. I was pushing as hard as I could, at many points I noticed my power output was much lower than I wanted and felt I was putting out a lot more and the same with my speed. I was trying not to hold back. We had a much larger field than last race and the group behind had several heavy hitters too. In our race we had 2 cat 1 racers with one having much higher standings. He started right after me. I tried to go with him but I couldn't. I was closing on my main competitor that started before me until the racer that passed me caught up with him. He had the strength to follow him and before I knew they were out of my sight light. I never gave up, I was able to get my speed up but it wasn't enough and a little late. I was caught by the top racer in the group behind me just before the finish line. I was able to race 1 mph faster than the last race which was my goal and most of this was done on the second 1/2 of the race. I ended of in 4th this time around. I am happy with my performance and know what I need to work on which should have a major impact on the next TT Bike TT race! My next race is in 2 weeks at High Point, NJ it is a major climbing race... I thought it had to b done on the TT bike, I found out that I can use a road bike, this is a game changer! I just need need to put the compact chain rings on the bike so the climbing will not be tough. I am now looking forward to this race and not dreading it as I was.
