WOW - when I left the house this AM, I was telling myself I might have to ride with the C group. My legs seemed tired. Body seemed tired. Even asked myself if I was getting sick!
Got to the start area just as they were leaving. another big WVC Saturday ride. Kirk, Nickie, Josh, and Dan all were there as I wondered if their legs were tired like mine.
Off we rode and somehow my mind and body agreed to go to the front and see what the A group was like. I was there most of warm-up way. Churned back a bit and then rode back to front. Then we crossed MC-85 and I was right there with the 11 of us leading out!
I started setting little goal points of staying with the A group: make it to the GIla Bridge, make it to the the first hill, make it up the 1st hill, make the 2nd hill, make the round about, make the stop light, make the stop sign by the school, make the turn to Westar. But certainly I would get dropped at Westar climb!
But I spun real fast and actually beat a number of the other 10 to the top of both parts of Westar. So the mental success points started again: make it to the bottom of Westar, to the corner of first climb out of westar, to the trail area, and finally to the stop light to turn to Estrella. Then I wondered could I make it to the turn-around of Estrella?
Sadly, not quite. Made it to the last stop sign and decided to fall back to ride my own pace! What a fun time. I could have held on a bit longer but oh well.
Eventually 3 other B groupers caught me just before Westar. They beat me just over the top, I should have pedalled that last 20 strokes over the top and I would have been with them. Oh well.
Got to Elliott Market and there was the B group! They actually took a completely different route today!
Then out to Verrado at B group pace! The A group never took off! So I finally had to turn at Verrado Way to get back home.
