You get 17+ miles of dirt (tow path and dirt roads) then some climbing (up-down, up-down) in the last half of the loop. But the roads are very quiet, especially since the ferry closed and it's a lovely part of the county. Worth the 30 minute drive to Riley's Lock. Glad to do this, even with the boring green tunnel that is the towpath, instead of dealing with suburban traffic around home. This could well turn out to be a Regular Route. The section between Martinsburg Road and Edwards Ferry Road was surprisingly easy pedaling and fast and it wasn't till the GPS track was available that it seems that section is slightly downhill. Like 100 feet spread over a mile. But for large bodies, every bit helps. That section of MD 107 would be dangerous to ride if the ferry was open and the usual traffic existed. But now seeing the track on a big map, sure looks like after leaving the towpath, I shoulda turned left on Martinsburg, went to Waschle and then to Edwards Ferry. Next time.
