As I was loading up the bike, I noticed a gummy spot on the rear tire. That meant that on yesterday's ride, I had had a puncture that self-sealed before I even noticed that anything had occurred. That's the second brand-new rear tire where that has happened in a week! I am sold on tubeless for life, though (using Giant's sealant, i.e, Stan's regular formula). Being able to deal with the damage afterwards rather than on the road is a huge convenience, especially with lots of baggage attached to the bike. Though the tire was holding air well enough, I had no safety margin left, so I stopped at Gregg's Bike Shop, where the mechanics topped up the sealant and inflated it to 80 psi. Due to my late start, the detour to the bike shop, a navigation error, and a recovery pace, I arrived at Tenino quite late. As it turned out, it didn't matter, since people were setting off some very loud fireworks nearby, and stopped shortly after I arrived, so I wouldn't have gotten sleep anyway if I had arrived earlier.
