I had to pull an all nighter to get some work done... then Murphy's Law struck! Almost everything that could go wrong did. I delayed my by over an hour, I couldn't find one of the lights and camera for the bike, had to make a repair to one of the water bottle cages, by the time I found everything, made repairs and installed everything it was over an hour. I was so tired and sleepy. thought just do an easy 10 miles or just a few power/speed interval. On my warmup ride out i decided that I had a good plan and I needed to do it no matter what even if I couldn't hit my targeted marks... it is always the first interval that is the hardest and will set the tone for all the rest. I take a deep breathe and away I go on this great adventure, not knowing what to expect, pedaling hard and fast and I'm hitting my targeted power, I am happy now to hold it, 1 down 16 to go and I'm set like it or not... one by one, the intervals go down, I think the 5th or 6th interval I couldn't my target and I was giving my all, don't what happened. I know my legs were still sore and tired from Saturday's ride. I was hoping this wasn't the start of a failed workout, on the recovery portion I get my mind ready for the next one. Off I go and I'm surpassing my target and I finish the interval super strong, I'm set this will be a great adventure! As tired as I was I got very serious about my task ahead, As much as my legs were screaming I kept hitting the target, it was not easy by any stretch of the imagination. The new front wheel was doing it's job it is fast at the lower speeds at higher speeds, I had to rally work, It seemed to get up to speed fast as long as I was willing to power the pedals the wheel was ready to give me the speed. Now the down side, the wind can be treacherous... passing trucks and some cars going either direction can blow me side to side as can head winds. I realized I had to really grip the bars and always be ready for the wind. Another thing I notice the slightest shift in the bars can catch air and redirect me. I can only wonder what strong side winds might do? Otherwise, the Zipp 1080 is a great wheel and loving it and the sound is awesome, it is so loud you can't think about anything negative. I seem to hit every large debris on the shoulder as hard as I was trying to avoid them. I need to inspect both tires hopefully, there are no cuts? Back to the intervals, I kind of was surprised I was doing so well, I noticed that my HR was much lower than usual especially on my the recovery portion that was much faster than I thought they would be. I couldn't believe the amount of debris that was spewed all over the shoulder maybe it was because of the rain but there were large pieces like 12" inches long by 1-2 inches wide. It looked as if someone put them all up and own the shoulders on both sides. There were other things, like big bolts, locks, large pieces of metal, sticks and all the other things you would normally see. I did one extra interval one my way out that was to make up for the failed interval and on the return trip back I added another one so I did 19 intervals instead of the 17 I planned. This was an interval workout I will remember for a long time. In the future I will try to do these in the daylight hours! Oh, did I mentioned the the work that my shoulders had to do the keep the bike straight? They were as tired as my legs as was my neck! What an adventure, tomorrow's great adventure will be an easy zone 1 power for about 20 miles or so. Now is time to allow legs to rebuild and get ready fro Saturday's Race. Be safe out there and enjoy your ride!
