So long USA, I’m going to miss all those nice State Parks. So it rained most of the night again but stopped early enough for us to have breakfast and pack up our soggy tent without getting any wetter. With the constant rain of the last few days we decided to forget about any gravel roads and take pavement into Sault Ste Marie. We found a relatively quiet paved road that paralleled the main highway and once in town we found a multi use path that took us to within a few hundred metres of the American side of the bridge. We had to pay a toll of $2 each and off we went. It turns out that a road crew was doing maintenance at the American end of the bridge which was down to one lane and a flagman was letting alternate traffic through. I don’t know if he did it on purpose but we only had 2 very small groups of vehicles pass us before we hit the end of the 4.5 km bridge and pulled into Canadian customs for a very quick stop. A lunch break and a stop for a few groceries and we were on our way to the campground at Garden River. We were told that there was a bear in the area so into the bear bag went our food and up into a tree with the PCT hang setup, the first time we have used it.
