My parents dropped me off at San José Diridon Station for an overnight train to Portland OR. There was another cyclist checking in her bike, on her way to Burnaby BC, coincidentally stopping in Portland and planning to take the same continuing train as me on Friday!
Also on board was a member of Seattle Randonneurs. He told me that when he was younger, he once rode from Seattle to Marin County, then headed east to Yosemite and beyond.
The Coast Starlight train has sleeper cars and coach seats. The seats have 120V outlets, recline about 40°, and have lots of leg room, with footrests. (The ergonomics of the seat design weren't to my taste, though.) There's a dining car, as well as an observation car with side-facing seats and windows to the sky.
The train arrived some 90 minutes behind schedule, which meant that I had to rush straight to the Oxbow Regional Park, where I had reserved a campsite, before its gate closed at 8 pm. Without stopping for dinner, I made it just in time, at 7:56! That's why, as a rule, I always carry enough food for one meal.

Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time.
