Perfect weather for a ride, cloudy cool and dry. Five follow me out of Uxbridge: Alan Potter, Cliff Jones, Geoff Clegg, Graham Orford and Chris Kinsey. We set off at a cracking pace. There were complaints about how cracking it was. Suffice to say we reached elevenses before eleven. Crumbs at Chalfont St Peter was the venue. By the time we leave we have been joined by John MacMillan.
We climb Gold Hill, past Chalfont St Giles and Penn Street, reaching our lunch stop shortly before 1pm. The Full Moon at Little Kingshill seems to be a new one to the Loiterers. I chose it because other pubs in the Missenden area wouldn't take a booking. The place was busy and the staff seemed to be rushed off their feet. The waiter was late taking our order, and as result our lunch was a bit late arriving. There didn't seem to be any complaints about the food; I only had a starter, but there was so much of it, I couldn't finish.
Afterwards, Alan decided to mend a puncture using a pressurised sealant that is designed to both inflate the tyre and stem the leak. I'm sure it did both, but a fair amount ended up coating the rear of the bike with what looked like shaving foam or whipped cream. Very impressive I'm sure. Chris's photo didn't do it justice. As all this took place just outside the pub, some of us were getting a wee bit chilly. Cliff who was succumbing to hypothermia, decided to pedal off to the tea stop at Amersham, ahead of us. The rest of us eventually followed, and the climb out of the valley to Hyde Heath warmed us up a treat.
We soon joined Cliff at Master Chef, while Geoff and John went home to St Peter. After refreshments the remaining four of us headed back along Chesham/Denham Lane to Uxbridge and beyond.
