It's my ride today, with five followers: Lilo Bleasdale, Margaret Chetty, John MacMillan, Alan Potter and Steve Ayres. With "Storm Doris" waiting in the wings, we head into a stiff breeze towards Iver Heath, Langley Corner and Fulmer. Halfway along Templewood Lane, the road is blcoked by a police car. Apparently there has been a fallen tree. We divert down Gypsy Lane, through Burnham Beeches, stopping at Sunrise Cafe, Burnham Village. I order a coffee with a dash of cold milk. What I actually get is a mug of cold milk with a dash of coffee. I think the others fared better than me.
Steve leaves us here. The rest of us continue to Maidenhead, Bray and Paley Street; turning northwest at White Waltham, and joining the Knowl Hill bridleway to our lunch stop at The Cricketers, Littlewick Green. The pub seems to be in the middle of nowhere, but in reality is only half a mile from the busy A4.
Back on the bridleway, the breeze is in our favour. I reckon with one of Stuart's flags as a spinnaker, I could make it home without pedalling. Even without a sail, it's easy riding through Cox Green and Bray. We continue through Eton Wick and the college grounds. Near Upton Court, John heads north and the rest of us head east along route 61. Through Langley and Trenches Farm, we stop at the Iver farm shop for refreshments.
We are down to three now. I have my first decent cup of coffee of the day, while Margaret and Alan augment their beverages with some artisan confections. Afterwards we head for Cowley and our respective homes.
All the best
Bernie
