Bob wanted to do a Z2 long ride. It was too hot to go south, so we went north.
It was overcast from the start all the way until we got to Fort Mason. It was a little chilly on Skyline from Sharp Park until we got to Lake Merced but it wasn't too bad. Overall the temperature was pretty good.
There were big groups of cyclists out this morning and we got stuck behind some on Foothill. Luckily they continued on when we turned off at Sand Hill.
I decided to take the guys through Golden Gate Park and Presidio since we always go around the perimeter and I figured it was stuff they didn't normally see. I also showed them the office. Just before turning in to see the Yoda Fountain, I saw someone riding towards me from behind and I was wondering who was coming at me. It was Mike C. It was good to see him even if just briefly.
In the park we stopped for a hot dog at Annie's. I thought we were getting lunch in the Presidio so I only got a NY style. Normally I get a Jumbo, which are better. It was still good, just not as good.
Embarcadero wasn't too bad today even though there was a Giants game starting right when we got there. We just had to fight through some crowds right by the stadium.
I'm not as familiar with our new way from the Dogpatch to Tunnel Rd. and I had Sonny navigate but instead of following the route, his Garmin decided to make something up that was totally wrong. I knew enough to know not to follow its choices and we eventually found the route.
After lunch, my power meter didn't wake up even though I put in a new battery last night. First time this has ever happened. I tried to open it up to pop the battery out but I couldn't. I just ended up gouging the cover instead. About a mile later it turned back on.
Also after lunch, the wind really picked up and for some reason it was a headwind. None of us were expecting that since it's normally a tailwind. It kind of shifted back and forth between being a headwind and a tailwind several times San Bruno until we got to San Mateo were it was solidly a tailwind.
Instead of taking the gravel through Baylands to Shoreline, I wanted to try the trail next to E. Bayshore since I'd never done that before.
We were trying to get Sonny home in time so Bob wouldn't let me get a Coke at American Bistro at Shoreline. I could of used it.
We got back to Bob's right when I thought we would (and we totally had time to get a Coke).
