Sure, there was a forecast of scattered t-storms, with radar completely clear for miles. But also, so what, a little rain when temps are near 90 sounds pretty good.
Except for, you know, the "thunder" part of t-storms along with its scary friend "lightning".
Storms popped up about 13 miles in; sat for about 20 minutes to see which way they were moving. Decided to keep going north-ish, away from storms, to get off the towpath and away from dense woods and possible falling trees and limbs. That worked well until ... it was time to turn south.
Ran smack into a big storm with a lot of lightning but not much rain, so took shelter at 22.4 at a horse boarding place that had a big front porch on the barn. Hung out there for 45 minutes while the storm sorta passed and decided to keep going... except now it was pretty dark. And wet. And there were still rumblings. So summoned help to meet me at Poolesville and take me back to the start...
Too bad, too, cuz was feeling good and going pretty fast... but the last 10 miles of the route goes through some pretty desolate (also dark) areas with a really big, fast, downhill that was gonna be pretty scary with a wet road.
