I lead the long ride today. Jim Swan, Alan Potter, Cliff Jones, Lisa Elliman and John MacMillan join me.
We set off in the sunshine through Ickenham, Ruislip amd Pinner, stopping at Morrisons, Hatch End for elevenses. We are joined by Dave Brown.
After a climb through Stanmore, excess clothing is removed, and we pedal onward to our lunch stop at The Three Horseshoes, at Letchmore Heath. As the sun is still shining, even more excess clothing is removed, consistent with common decency, local byelaws etc.
With legs that haven't seen sunlight for six months or so, I dazzle my fellow travellers on the way home. Our return journey takes in Radlett, and a section of Watling Street before curving back towards Bricket Wood. Wending our way through Watford and route 61, we briefly lose Cliff to the allure of Wetherspoons at Rickmansworth. He eventually joins us at the golf club for refreshments.
Afterwards, my planned ride up the hill towards Harefield is not popular. This is probably because of the climbing we've done already. As an alternative, Jim leads us through the Aquadrome and along the Colne Valley. By Denham we are down to four, and by Uxbridge we have gone our separate ways. I take the scenic route back home through the old RAF camp.
All the best
