The winds were strong today. From the North West. I decided to climb the Tehachapi Mountain Park road. My initial plan was to climb to the Ranger's station and back. When I reached the station, I saw the road that continues on the right. But, there was a road that went straight ahead. I just had to explore it, as I haven't been on that trail (at least for a while). It was paved and went on for about 1/2 mile or so. I followed a branching trail after that. It then intersected the primary road. I took a look to see how far the summit was. The road curved to the left, so I had to ride a few hundred yards to see what was beyond that. I saw what appeared to be familiar. A gate, off in the distance. So, I decided to investigate more. Before I knew it, I was close to the summit, and I decided to ride the remainder of the ascent. I felt good for the entire ride. Albeit, I had a significant tailwind on a good part of the ascent. Concentration was the name of the game today. I talked coached myself up the climb. Using the phrases I derived the other day. Notably, while on the more difficult slopes that put me in the first 4 gears and small chainring. Simple phrases. Ie, On 4, On 3, On 2, etc. In and out of the saddle, "In", "up". To help concentration more, "Steady", "Push", "Relax", etc. I was able to practice the approach and it worked great. Balance and form felt good. On top of the pedals. Ailments were none, just exhaustion while climbing. GEar is working great. Not sure if the tracking software was functioning as it had problems in the past few rides. Other notes, no other cyclists, minimal traffic making my way up the mountain.
