Definitely another cool ride today. I scaled back a little on the gear attempting to strike a better balance between being too warm and cold. I feel that I was just about on the edge of being cold with my clothing choice today, especially on the way home.
The ride to work was a good one. The highlight came at the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd and St. Rose. I came up alongside a CCSD school bus while we waited at the red light. They were in the lane to continue north on Las Vegas Blvd. while I sat in the buffer area between that travel lane and the right turn lane. I stopped a little short just in front of the folding door, stood there, and when the driver looked at me, I put my hands out, rubbed them together and then back out to make it look like I was warming them by the heat of the engine. Trying to cast an image of someone trying to warm themselves by a campfire. I look and see the driver laughing and I crack a huge smile and laugh back. A few moments later he opened the door and wished me a safe ride and to stay safe. I wished him a good day and shortly after the light turned green. Honestly that encounter wasn't only the highlight of the ride, but probably the highlight of my day.
The ride home was uneventful for the most part, just a few more terrible drivers than usual. I encountered both of them along Flamingo. The first was a pickup that stopped in the middle of the shared bike/bus lane while turning right into a parking lot. I had to wave and then swing close to travel lanes in order to go around them. Not sure if they were waiting on the car exiting the parking lot for one reason or another, if they were trying to run a screen for me with the car exiting the parking lot, or they were just slow. Either way, at the time, I wasn't thrilled.
The second, occurred while approaching a red light at an intersection. I think it was near Eastern and Flamingo. Someone exiting a parking lot decided it was ok to park in the shared bike/bus lane while trying to turn right. This caused all sorts of chaos and confusion while forcing me out into stopped traffic to go around them. So frustrating sometimes.
Other than that the ride home was tough. The clothes that I'd felt fine in during the ride to work felt woefully inadequate on the ride home. I think this is due to my legs not getting the memo to show up for the ride. They were super sore and fatigued from a combination of a lot of miles and a gym day thrown in for good measure. Heart rate and power were both well below averages for the ride home. I suspect that is why I felt so cold. Just a little temporary discomfort until I got home.
