As planned, I did the Keene + Tour de Teh ride today. The weather was great. I got out about 30 minutes later than I anticipated and was worried that it might heat up as the day went on. Turns out that the air temperature was perfect, around 70ish and the overcast kept the Sun from scorching. I had everything planned out and that's why it went well. I put 2 bottles of water and Gatorade in the mailbox and then headed out to Keene. I cruised it all the way down, probably one of my slower descents. To be expected though. The ascent was a calculated effort. I didn't exactly stroll through the park, but I did good to modest tempo. Depending on the section of the ascent. Namely in the open fields and over the top of the Loop Monument. From there, I just put it into cruise control and no heroics, not even over the top. At the summit, I fed 1 power bar and lots of fluids, just as I planned. Camera was reset and I continued. I made it down to the mailbox, swapped out my bottles and continued. At that point my legs were slightly fatigued, to be expected. I kept my tempo modest to the end of Old town Road. There was no escaping the pains of the Banducci wall. I just ended up putting my head down and turning over as smooth as I could. That seemed to work. From there, I continued with modest tempo to the summit of Banducci. I swapped out my camera battery and SD Card at the summit. The wind picked up a bit, so I had a headwind from the summit to the top of SS. Again, no heroics on the tempo, just slightly above modest at that point. I fed a1t the top of SS and took on some fluids. From that point, it was pretty much none-stop till I got home. Exiting SS, I felt pretty good, so I lifted the pace just a bit and I kept it that way for most of the return trip. My ailments mostly consisted of my calf muscles cramping ever so slightly. In the first few miles, my calf muscles cramped for a few seconds, this made me concerned. I stretched and got out of the saddle, and that helped. I kept that routine up everytime I felt a cramp coming on. The second ailment, was my right shoulder was a little sore at times. My back was a bit sore (off the bike) for a couple days. Fortunately, that wasn't an issue today. My stomach was able to handle the food and fluids very well. No aches there. My right hand felt a hint of numbness, but that was only for about 30 seconds. I don't remember where in the ride that happened. Overall, it was a great ride. My concentration, although not perfect, was good. Some self coaching needed, but that seems to be the case with all my rides... I put some focus into my leg balance, I feel that progressed to my satisfaction. Gear, no problems there. Other notes, my other pair of shorts is having problems with the lower elastic band on the left leg. I think I'm going to return it and buy another. My GPS had a misreading near the descent on Banducci. It returned to normal within 5 minutes or so.
