NOTE: I had a problem with my bike GPS and it captured only 47 miles of the 107 mile route from Richmond to Marysville, OH that the 4 of us completed in 17.7 average mph.
We were lucky with the wind today. Coming out of the southwest. It would have been exhausting if we had to ride in it....instead it was a crosswind from about 4pm direction.
I had problems loading today's route in my bike gps computer. My bike computer has a map that has a line of arrows showing my route. It is essential for not missing turns and therefore getting "bonus" miles from making a wrong turn. Nearly all riders have a Garmin bike computer but I have a Wahoo Bolt computer...and I think it is great. But this morning there was a problem loading the route so Scott, Jake, Ted, and Bart took off early without me. I was not able to load the route and so I was riding "blind." I took off with the fast riders and it was only 3 miles to the state line and our Ohio picture. After the picture, the fast riders took flight, but fortunately two were taking it easy today -- Matt from Indiana and Mark from UK -- and I rode with them all day to the hotel in Marysville. Since I did not have the route in my bike computer....I had to make certain that they did not drop me today. And I was able to hang with them. We picked up Bart at lunch...and the 4 of us rode to the hotel averaging 17.7 for the entire day....with the last 20 miles very, very nice with a good tailwind.
Other than a bike crash and injury, my biggest risk for a ride ending injury is a "saddle sore" on my butt. These are either pressure point sores that break the skin or they can be chaffing from moving my legs 10's of thousands times a day wearing away the skin to form a sore. From about day 3 on, I had a very tender bottom and I was very worried about getting a saddle sore. I grease up each morning with A+D diaper rash gel. And using advice from the staff, beginning on day 4 and continuing every day since, I wear two pairs of padded shorts. Each short has padding to cushion my butt....and wearing 2 pairs of shorts is definitely helping....although my butt is STILL tender! It becomes 2nd nature with riding these long distances to shift a little on the seat regularly to help with comfort and avoid saddle sores.
Tomorrow we are off to Wooster, OH and will ride within 20 miles, Shelby, the hometown of my graduate school buddy, Dave Griffeth, who saw me off in Costa Mesa, CA 25 days ago.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
