Ride on the NH Ice Cream Trail to Kimball Farm, Jaffrey, NH. Ride begins and ends at Kimball Farm. Right off the bat there is a view of Mount Monadnock, a contender for the World's Most Hiked mountain. A short ride away is Howard Memorial Park. A ride into town brings services if needed, and a few monuments on the main drag. Then its off to Gilmore Pond. Views of the Mount can be had at many-a-turn in the road. If you have time to CLIMB the Mount, there is a trail head at the Old Toll Road/Halfway House Parking area. If not, continue on to Perkins Pond and The Inn at East Hill Farm, a pleasant place to spend a few weeks with the family - of a summertime, I have it on good authority. Next, on to Troy, not missing any rabbits of course. Apparently the EPA had some sort of success at the Troy Blanket Mill project, but it didn't look very successful of late.... it doesn't hurt to try I suppose. The Chickens were happy though. A WORD HERE ABOUT THE ROUTE. Starting at the Depot in Troy is access to the Cheshire Rail Rail/Monadnock Recreation Trail. THIS TRAIL IS UNPAVED. NOT FOR ROAD BIKE USE. It starts off headed south well enough, but ends up wet and muddy, even on this fine day, before Rockwood Pond. TAKE RT 12 INSTEAD IF ROAD BIKING. Swimming can be had at the Dam at Rockwood Pond. A Dirt road, Rockwood Pond Road, leads from the Dam to Rhododendron State Park. Signage indicates bloomage in July.... I beg to differ, more like Mid June usually... by July the bloom is off.... I could swear, even on this June 14th there were many fine blooms all along the route, some even clearly past it. Thence into Fitzwilliam, with a fine green, and the Fitzwilliam Inn. Rt 119 takes you out of town, and a fine ride it is on good shouldered road to Franklin Pierce University. More fine views of the Mount, and a Diner - the Hometown Diner, alas as many diners are, it's closed past 2pm. Not to worry, the Ice Cream is within reach soon. First, a stop at Cathedral of the Pines, The Woodbound Inn, and another Beach. Ending back at Kimball Farm and the Tractor, it's time for the reward!
