Alright! Today was the Double. Being that we have company, I rode with Rob to the Keene Loop. In such, the pace was very modest and mostly brisk. The overall time reflects this tempo. The weather was good. A bit on the warm side, likely in the upper 80's. I was well in my limits on the return ascent. Some heat exhaustion, but nothing to be concerned about. I had no ailments on the first climb, just a bit of a kicker over the monument. After that it was cruise control. I fed at the summit. One power bar and 90% of my remaining fluids. I switched bottles at the Mail lockers, after consuming all the fluids in the first set of bottles. I kept the tempo modest all the way up to the top of Banducci. I don't recall having ailments at this point. At the summit of Banducci, I had 1/2 of another power bar. The winds were from the north, so naturally, I had a headwind going into SS. I did moderate tempo to the top of SS. No real kicker over the top. I still felt well within my limits at this point. I upped the tempo just a bit, as I felt that I had it in me to bring up the tempo just a bit. I was doing 20ish on the return leg on Banducci. After about 1/2 through Pelisser, I started to feel some cramping in my right calf. Reducing the speed fixed that problem. My leg continued to bother me on a few other parts of the remaining ride. That was the only ailments that I had. I continually stretched while riding and that seemed to reduce the ailment. I felt better as I was on the final climb. My leg seemed to be much better at that point. The final leg was probably the most enjoyable. There was very little traffic on route 202, and the return trip on OTR is always a treat. I kept the tempo up for the remainder of the ride, as my leg was responding better. Hydration-wise, I had just enough, with a bit left over at the end. My concentration on the ride varied from right in the zone, to complete lapse of focus, but I was able to get it back just as quick. While I was regaining my focus at times, I concentrating on my balance. That helped a lot! My gear worked flawless. I changed my camera batteries and SD card at the top of Banducci. The camera gave me no problems. Other notes, the mule is still in the mini-field, I saw some red tail hawks and some turkey vultures. Great ride today!
