For years, I’ve been calling, sprinting ahead to get photos, Photo Intervals, or more awkwardly, “Photoervals” or “Photovals”. I asked Charlotte if she could think of anything better and on her first try, “Shot Sprints”. 🤦🏻♂️
Unfortunately, we also had some drama to start the ride off. Skyler was the first to arrived and they waited in the bike lane right before the entrance to the parking lot for Buck's and The Village Bakery. We were there waiting for Catherine when a car comes up behind us. We weren't sure what they were doing at first and thought maybe they were just stopped to check their phone or something.
It turns out, they wanted to turn right into the parking lot and they were trying to use the bike lane as a turn lane and the woman was waiting for us to move out of the way for her. I tried to tell her she was in a bike lane and not in an actual turn lane but she insisted. That's when things got a little heated as she inched her car forward and was basically trying to forcer her way through. I have no patience for people doing the wrong thing but acting like they're doing the right thing.
It was 7a after all and they could've very easily gone back on to the road and turned in. She was stopped over the bike lane markings on the pavement so couldn't see it unfortunately. I think it was just what she was used to doing, probably turning right off of Canada on to Woodside and into the parking lot. Had she been doing this as part of her driver's test, she would've failed, or at least had marks deducted.
A common mistake I see from a lot of drivers is that they don't look far enough ahead. We were already stopped there well before she arrived and had she been paying attention, looking ahead, she would have and should have spotted this potential "hazard" and taken the appropriate steps to avoid this situation. The fact that she didn't proves she shouldn't have a license.
So I got to introduce myself to Skyler with the claws out, yelling at this lady. Oops.
The rest of the ride was nice though. Lots of branches on the ground from yesterday's wind. It was still pretty windy and the sound through the trees was a little disconcerting at times.
The views of the ocean on Star Hill and Swett were epic. It was foggy last week so I didn't know. I don't ride this combo very often but I have done it a few other times and I never remembered that view. Maybe it's been covered every time?
Kings was also bumpier and more beat up than last week. Many cracks were marked with paint outlines ready for road repairs it looked like.
