This was a really nice easy ride on Maryland's Eastern Shore that we did on a beautiful sunny Wednesday afternoon. The roads were very quiet with little traffic and several places with lovely river views and stops. There was a 2 or 3 miles of easy gravel road near the end. We parked our car at the park in Trappe which is on Main Street just south of the Post Office a couple of blocks. We made two stops along the Choptank River. The first was at Lloyd's Landing at about the 8 mile mark. We thought there was a public boat ramp there but all we saw was a chain across two posts blocking an old road with a Private Property sign on the left post. We rode up a driveway to the right and ran into the guy who either now owns it, or keeps his eye on it. He told us to go on down to the river and enjoy ourselves, which we did. It was about a 200 yard ride on an old road through the grass down to the Choptank River from the private property sign. One could walk down that short stretch and back. We had lunch (we brought it) near the old overgrown boat ramp and sandy area. It was quite nice.
We also went down to the river at Windy Hill Landing, about 13.5 miles in. This is a public boat launch with a small sandy beach. We waded, but did not swim lacking suits, and there were a couple of other folks nearby. Would be a great place for a swim, despite quite shallow water, especially if it were really hot. After that stop we rode out the rest of the ride without any long stops. At mile 26 we took a gravel road that was easy to ride first left then right to route 50.
At the highway we rode north 50 yards to a crossing then back south 100 yards on the other side to a small road to the west. It to was easy riding gravel for about 2 miles to a paved road for the last mile back into Trappe where we parked.
