Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail the hard way. 🙃
This was the finale of a dirt extravaganza for Charlotte before heading home. So sad that she was unable to make it. It was such a beautiful day.
Anthony forgot his helmet and Hong forgot a water bottle cage so I had to lend them some.
I had to be home by 3p so we couldn't do the full loop. Charlotte also wanted to do something shorter so I put this one together. I wanted to do a little more but yesterday afternoon, there was a huge thunderstorm that just dumped. The trails were already wet to begin with and after the storm, there was no hope that they'd be dryer. I was very glad I had my fenders on.
I wasn't expecting Robin to come after she raced Fish Rock yesterday and came 5th! She was too tired to swap out her 30c tires for 35c's. Little did I know they were 30c slick road tires! I both trusted her and was afraid for her. In the end she crushed the challenging conditions on a very challenging tire choice. Extra kudos to her!
Having down Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail from all the possible ways, entering from Quarry Gate, while very pretty, is also the hardest way. It's not my first choice but it just made the most sense, especially given the size of the group (logistics-wise).
There weren't that many wildflowers. With all the rain, the grass has choked out the flowers, sadly.
The singletrack portion of Baquiano was pretty rutted and challenging but fun.
We bombed down to Pacifica and had lunch at Rock'n Rob's Famous Burgers. First time there. At first, it looked like they were closed but they were just waiting for the staff to arrive and help. We were about to move on and find a different place when they opened up for us.
The food was okay. Burger Board has much better burgers and if it wasn't such a detour, I would've taken us there instead. Rob's has more options I suppose, serving more than just burgers.
Catherine couldn't make it for the ride but for some reason, she had the urge to hike in Pacifica today. :) Her and Riley met us for lunch.
Mori Point had more wildflowers and all the views of the ocean were so pretty today.
The final climb up Milagra Ridge is also not my favorite. It's quite steep and I much prefer descending it to climbing it.
Emily headed back to the city while we continued on to Sawyer Camp Trail. It was busy at the south end but it wasn't too bad.
Lunch took a while and I wasn't sure I'd make it home on time but we actually made it back just after 3p.
