This ride starts at Independence City Park. The first 18.5 miles is the ferry loop. A portion of this section is within the Ankeny NWR. There are a few rollers in the first few miles. The ferry crossing is at mile 12.2. Typically, there is north wind on this ride and can get breezy in the afternoon. Today was one of those minimal wind days. The next 10 miles, after reaching Corvallis Rd, travels south and then west to Suver. There is a little honey/fruit stand just before crossing 99W. This makes a nice rest stop. The next 10 miles is on Airlie Rd, with more rollers and several wineries. The route then goes right at the Highway 223 junction toward Dallas. This 6.8 mile section typically has headwind and some short, gradual climbs. Mlle 47 is Dallas. There is an elementary school off Miller Rd heading out of town. This makes another good rest stop. The final 12 miles heads east, passing Eola Hills Winery, crossing 99W again and then continuing east on Rickreall Rd. Turn right at Greenwood Rd and continue 2.5 miles. Return to the park via Highway 51.
