A ride on the NH Ice Cream Trail to Big 1 Ice Cream Stand, Nashua, NH. Ride begins and ends in the Boston Express bus parking lot at Rt 93, exit 5, Londonderry, NH. Leave the lot using the Londonderry Rail Trail (paved) to get started. Snake on the Ride! (it was just sleeping I think... colorful though...) Not two miles into the ride it begins to rain, so phone/camera stays in it's ziplock... Rt3A is used for the ride "out" with it's local veg stands and thin shoulder, it's an okay ride. Use a bit of back road near the end of 3A to bring you to the Merrimack River crossing. Bridge has "sidewalk" since it was built in a day when people still walked, or rode bikes. Ride into Nashua, past BAE to a pedestrian/bike way over the Nashua River. Then it's "downtown", Main Street Nashua, with shops, restaurants and the Martha's Exchange brewery. Up to Railroad Square, and some sort of art in the park sculpture. A Church and a Monument. Historical district and Historical Society Headquarters. Back streets lead to the back entrance of Greeley Park and it's paved path through it. Foresty. It stops raining long enough while at Greeley Park to get some good shots of the Constitution Tree, and the Millennium Child. Thanks for the forethought back in 1911 to provide restrooms! Onward, you know you're in Nashua when the manhole covers are triangular (look that up in your Funk & Wagnall). (Look THAT up in Google). Then, it's The Big 1! Where, it starts raining again. No pics back though the city a slightly different way, and back over the Merrimack. Highland street is a fine ride. Turn onto Greeley (remember that name?) for a further fine ride. But, the finest part of the ride starts after winding your way across Rt101 and thence onto the paved Bike Route Multi-use Trail beside Albuquerque Ave for it's entire length. And to think, you could have avoided the traffic on Rt 3A with it's thin shoulders using this... Live. And learn. Thanks Mr. Bergeron! Litchfield Road brings it back in, UP over Bartley HILL Rd, to find a nicely flowered house and yard. Think you could have easily gone back the way you came on the Rail Trail? You COULD have, but you'd miss the flowers, and the hill, and that snake might still be there. Sleeping.
