Sonny wanted to head to the coast and Bob wanted to go to Pie Ranch so we resurrected an old ride we did from a couple years ago.
At the start of the ride, a honey bee hitched a ride on Sonny's shoulder. It seemed to be taking a rest but once it started to move around, I was just picturing it taking off and flying into my mouth. It stayed with us for quite a while. I hope we didn't take it too far away from its home.
The weather was perfect, the coast was beautiful with a nice tailwind on the way down and not that bad a headwind on the way back.
There was an accident on the wide sweeping hairpin on the bottom part of W. Alpine (about half way down?). A motorcyclist descending went wide and collided with an OnTrac delivery van coming up. I saw a crack on its windshield but I don't know if that was from the collision.
Other people had already gotten there and somehow managed to call for an ambulance. The motorcyclist was lying on the ground but conscious and moving. He seemed to be in some pain and discomfort.
We continued to climb and could hear the sirens for ages before finally seeing fire trucks coming down W. Alpine. I thought the closest fire station was in La Honda and was expecting them to be coming from below.
Luckily the climb wasn't hot but Sonny bonked. Not sure why. We had a sandwich in Pescadero before the pie at Pie Ranch.
After lunch in Pescadero, I noticed my rear tire was missing a chunk of rubber and I could see the thread in places. Oops! Time to replace the tire.
The Page Mill descent was fun. At one point, I saw I was catching a car but when I finally caught up to it (in the exposed part with the wood fencing), I came up on it so fast, I was able to easily pass it barely missing a beat. Right after that there were some motorcyclists parked on the shoulder cheering me on.
