It's been warm and nice all week, especially in the evenings, but tonight, another storm is rolling in and bringing colder air and colder temps with it. The original plan was to do Russian Ridge since it was so nice last Friday, despite being cold and windy from an incoming storm as well. Today was much colder and windier though. Kira hasn't done Russian Ridge but she also hasn't done Arastradero. With how windy it was, I thought about pivoting and doing Arastradero, even as we passed it but we decided to stick to the plan. The weather was sunny the whole way up until past the Monte Bello Parking where the ridge was just a back drop of ominous dark clouds. When we opened the door, it was freezing outside. We immediately noped out and drove back down to Arastradero. There was no debate. I don't think either of us even finished the sentence about doing Arastradero instead. So we killed 30 minutes but it was SO much nicer down at Arastradero. Far less wind and while it was cooler than the past few days, it was really the perfect temp. Some of the trails were closed but we managed to get in some fun laps and Kira got in some switchback practice. On the way to Alpine Inn, I told Kira about how we used to sprint the final part of Arastradero Rd. on the way to Alpine Inn. There was a car behind us that didn't seem to want to pass so Kira started to pick up the pace. Then I started to sprint and Kira let out a very good scream of aggression. Easily got me sprinting a couple hundred watts harder. It's too bad my MTBs don't have power meters. I'd love to know what I did. Alpine Inn was packed but as good as ever. Also a first for Kira.
