Well, today was a big one. I knew what I wanted to do, the moment I woke up in the morning. My legs were a bit heavy in the morning and I was hoping they would feel better after the usual nap. In that same time, my stomach was sore. I slept it off and that ailment never came back. The weather was interesting. It was noticeably hotter than the previous ride. The winds were also unusual. I had a headwind on my way out to WS. I wasn't sure what to make of it. I was constantly telling myself where the wind would be a factor. I made my way up OTR and my legs were feeling better than the early morning. The outbound was slow on Highline. So, I took the opportunity to practice form. I felt somewhat awkward on the saddle, but not so much. Going up WS felt a bit dangerous due to the traffic. I was taking mental notes. From bottom to top, it's about 3.5 miles. The descent on WS felt much more controllable than the other side. I can WOT the whole way down. The return on Highline was fast, due to the tailwind. I was thinking in my mind that the return from SS was going to hurt if the wind continues as it was. I made my way up Banducci, traffic was dangerous today. There was more traffic than usual. So, I made my way up the Alpine forest. Settling into a temple and counting the speed bumps. Once I reached the last speed bump, my morale increased. My legs felt good, in that I didn't feel any cramps, just the usual feeling of exhaustion. When I reached the summit, I took a few moments rest, ate a Power Bar and then headed downhill. When I was descending, I noticed that the wind had reversed. This was a morale booster. It meant that the return trip wasn't going to be a slow march back home. I made my way to SS and stopped at the local gas mart. I bought some Gatorade and refilled the other bottles with ice water. From there it was the trek back home. My legs were tired, but no signs of cramping. At this point, I noticed that my HR was higher than normal, but I wasn’t winded. The final climb was mostly moderate tempo, but not much less. After a modest push over the summit, I breathed a sigh of relief and finished the ride. Most of which was downhill. Concentration today was good. I had good contiguity of thoughts. Ailments consisted of right hand numbness, some lower back soreness and general fatigue. Balance and form felt good, not great in some areas like the outbound to WS. I was trying to maintain a line in some parts of the ride. I think it got better as the ride progressed. Gear is working well. The GoPro had no issues. The GPS lost connectivity with the smartphone, somewhere on OTR. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
