Back to basics and my love of cycling. Part two of the plan to build some fitness and get in some base miles. After the effort the day before, combined with the distance and heat, the focus was adequate hydration and managing the gearing so as not to induce cramping. It seemed to work as the only cramping that started was on Coldwater Road on the way back, but backing off on the tempo and spinning lower gears allowed me to manage that to where they were a non-issue. Without a group, I was able to set my own pace based on how I felt at the moment.
The plan originally was to go home on the way back and have Lisa give me a ride back to town to pick up my truck. I was feeling good enough at Pickard and Winn Roads to push on back to town and it all worked out. Felt good at the end of the ride.
Conditions were hot and humid (not as bad as the previous day) with a haze to the atmosphere caused by western wild fires. Wind was out of the NE around 10 mph. It was good to get back to the hilly side of the county! Rest day tomorrow.
