After a fine breakfast we said goodbye to our hostess and returned to continue our journey down the Downs Link Path which followed quiet roads downhill to the Steyning By-Pass which was built on the line of the railway. Our path continued a short way alongside the road before crossing over and heading across meadows before crossing the River Adur at a point where the South Downs Path crosses. Our way followed the course of the river picking op the course of the railway riding under the modern road bridge with views of the tidal river down to the old toll bridge.
We shortly had to leave the river to follow NCR2 through quiet roads through Shoreham avoiding a busy main road through an industrial area. This led us across that road and over the harbour lock gates and on to the promenade where we came across Carats Cafe Bar Just in time for a coffee break.
We continued towards Brighton the route being on and off road and getting busier as we approached the pier. Being to early to catch our train we drank coffee while watching beach volley ball. At the appointed time we cycled along very busy roads to the station in time to have a sandwich before boarding our train to Clapham Junction where we to change to one to Feltham.
