Leader John Male
Thirteen loiterers gathered at The Village Centre, Chinnor for John’s ride through Oxfordshire countryside. It was late opening due to staff training so having got our beverages The Headmaster was soon chasing us to get on the road. We headed off along the B4009 towards Princes Risborough. We turned off the road just short of an over bridge which once carried the GWR rail link between Princes Risborough and Oxford and is now The Phoenix Trail along which we were about to travel. Steve T met us here and we pedaled along the trail on a good surface passing Bledlow and Thame Stations to elevenses in the delightful town of Thame.
Refreshed we followed John out of Thame along the Oxford Road the busy A418 which thankfully had a shared cycle path. Reaching Mill Lane we were now on quieter roads leading over the River Thame through Shabbington to Worminghall where we came across The Clifden Arms, an attractive thatched Pub. Some of the group elected to lunch here and the rest carried on to the cafe at Waterperry Gardens.
After lunch we regrouped and carried on past Waterperry house and Waterstock Mill. We continued on through Waterstock to Tiddington and crossing the A418 to Sandy Lane. On reaching the A40 we realized that we were short of two riders so four of us went back to find them allowing the others to carry on. We found Frank waiting at an intersection of lane and paths,Cliff had gone to investigate a bridle path so all five of us went that way. This track led us back to Tiddington so we decided to follow the A418 back to Thame then the Phoenix Trail and road back to Chinnor Village Centre where we found the rest enjoying tea and cake.
