Trek Farley 9.6. Sunny and warm - mid 70's, a bit o' wind. Replaced the crappy base SRAM level brakes on the Farley with Hayes Dominion A4 brakes and rotors (da' bomb).
First step with new disc brakes is to set in the disc pads and rotors. I did a series of hard stomps up to 18-20 mph then slammed one set of brakes on almost to the point of lockup then released just before stopping. I did it in the parking lot at Cykel Cycles/Penrose Brewing, 15 times on the rear brakes first, then 15 times on the front brakes. This is a hella workout, especially after completing a 2 hour ride on the road bike.
The brakes stopped squealing on the 11th or 12th iteration, finally fully silent before 15.
It's a hard workout to stomp with the heavy fat bike wheels! I was pretty wiped out after 15 times and especially at 30. Andrew did a final adjustment after completion and the new brakes are awesome, a noticeable improvement over the old ones. I can't wait to try them out on some real singletrack in the coming days.
