2017-09-11 07:07:04 DAY -2: jULIAN TO EL CENTRO, CA.
"IF IT TAKES A CHICKEN AND A HALF A DAY AND A HALF TO LAY AN EGG AND A HALF, HOW MANY PANCAKES DOES IT TAKE TO COVER A DOG HOUSE?" (Alan Wildman) Well, in the middle of the afternoon in 113 degree heat this quote almost made sense to me. Almost. Allow me to bitch again. Today was OK till mile 55 and then when the heat built up to double digits over 100 it became the worst day of riding in my life. I did the whole ride, how I don't know. It's 7:23 pm and I am still cramping head to toe and have no appetite. They say we have two more tough desert days and then it gets better as we ride the higher elevations into New Mexico. Tonight we are at a Holiday Inn Express along I-8 in 43,000 person El Centro, CA. It is the county seat of Imperial county and is the largest city in the USA that lies below sea level at minus 39.4 feet. Federal, state and local government jobs as well as agriculture drive the economy. Agriculture watered by Colorado River water makes up 48% of the local economy. Cher (1946) was born here. Tomorrow is another hot desert day as we ride to Blythe, CA.

Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.

Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

GPX Track (.gpx)
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.

When riding with the Yuma group to El Centro our reward was the Jack in the Box in El Centro. One of Toms favorite rides near there is Montezuma out of Borrego springs.

Tell Lon they need to have IV's set up for evening recovery! They get them during the Tour de France and it sounds like you could use one!! You have/had hyperthermia. Hope you can make it through today without being hospitalized!! Keep us posted. I thought it would be fun to follow your ride but I didn't think I would have to come home from the hospital wondering if you were in another one. You made it through because you are descended from the Rueteniks. Hard head.
