A little foggy in the morning - and overcast for most of the day - but light rather than grey. A day riding gradually uphill (1-3%) for about 50km, beginning with a steep downhill and - to unpleasingly - ending with a steep (10%+) uphill (up which I pushed the bike for large parts) followed by a very steep downhill (brakes jammed on in an endeavour to control my descent) followed by a very steep uphill along farm racks into the small mountain town of Rapolla. Big landscape of long rolling hills golden with stubble & straw and with wheat & barley ready to harvest, with dark patches of rape also ready to be combined. I rode along the hard shoulder of the SS655 highway - with very little traffic; lizards scuttling out of my path.
