A delayed, wet and windy start to the 2013 Wamego Yellow Brick Road ride. We had a storm crossing over us at the 0800 start time, so the organizers wisely waited it out and started us off at 0830 instead. It was still damp and breezy. The WNW wind was in our faces down Old 24 and up Flush Road, so the pace was slow. Once we got through Westmoreland, the wind was not a factor, but the rollers on Hartwich Road were. I actually felt really good on those today. They were just the right amount of challenge. The homeward leg down Onaga road finally got us up to speed, with the wind behind us and being mostly downhill. The last few miles back into Wamego on 24 had the wind in our face again, but we were headed to the barn and just powered through. Wore the intermediate temperature ensemble of SmartWool jersey and bibs again, and it was just right.
