Day 1: Clinton to Sedalia
Today we rode from Clinton to Sedalia Missouri, through the Osage Plains.
Windsor, is the town where the Rock Island spur and the Katy intersect.

Clinton: Population: 9,000 Laid out in 1836 named for New York Governor DeWitt Clinton.
Calhoun: population 469. Named after John C. Calhoun, seventh Vice President of the United States. Calhoun was once known as “jug town”, and had 6 potteries because “the clay here is some of the best in the world”.
Windsor: population 2,900.was laid out in 1855 and was originally called Belmont, but in 1859 the people settled on the name Windsor after Windsor Castle in England. Being the home of over 40 Amish families, horse-drawn carriages are a common sight.
Green Ridge: population 446, popped up strictly because of the railroad. Originally called Parkersburg, its name was changed to Green Ridge because of the site's location on a broad ridge dividing the Lamine and Osage River watersheds.
Sedalia: population: 21,387, is the county seat of Pettis County, the location of the Missouri State Fair and the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival. (Because Scott Joplin traveled to Sedalia as a railroad laborer and stayed there making his living as a piano teacher). Sedalia Public Library was the first Carnegie Grant awarded in Missouri and is home of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art which owns notable works by artists such as Dale Chihuly and Andy Warhol among others. The first boy scout troop in the nation was formed in Sedalia in 1909.
The highest point on the Katy Trail: at 955 feet above sea level, at mile marker 242.6 you will be at the highest point on the entire trail!

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
