Been a lonnnnng time since the gravelment bike has been ridden and lonnnnng overdue. Nice brisk warmup along the basically flat tow path before a few miles on one of the few dirt roads left in the countyand then climbing out of the river valley into Poolesville. Body felt pretty good; even the contact points were pretty much ok. Can't remember when there was this much seat time at one go. Maybe a month or two in downtown DC? Regardless, was happy to discover it wasn't awful. Pretty brisk North wind, but the heavily wooded tow path mitigates that some; the section starting at Mile 17 was directly into it for about a mile followed by a short section in Poolesville. After that, a tail wind or from the left, so much easier. Unhappy to discover "chip and seal" applied to Montevideo Road, which left piles of small gravel at the edges and in inconvenient places on sharp turns.
