The weather today was nice and cool with sunny skies. But the wind was from the south. That meant a significant headwind on the return ascent. This was a good indicator for how my legs were going to react. Especially under these conditions. The way out was a treat. I forgot to start the GPS timer, so I lost about 1 minute of data. Nevertheless, I made it to the top of the descent in good time. I wasn't pushing it on the way out, just doing good tempo. The descent was great! A bit of a treat, compared to most other days. I hit 40+ just after the Keene ranch. Keeping in mind, I rarely do 25+ on a southerly wind day. My legs felt good for the most part. As usual, the first few miles on the ascent felt a bit sluggish. It took a while for my legs to warm up. And even then, I didn't put myself into the red-zone. The winds just didn't permit it. I don't think I did any serious digs. I got out of the saddle to crest the Loop riser. Other than that, it was steady tempo. In terms of ailments, pretty much none. I think there was a minor ailment, but, being that I can't remember must mean that it was no biggy. I stopped a few times to reseat my wheels, as I was hearing some odd creaking noises. I seem to remember that this was attributed to the wheels. I inspected the B.B. yesterday, and I couldn't find any fractures in the frame. I did, however, see some chipping of paint on the chainstay, nearest the B.B. The noise seems to occur while out of the saddle. So, that rules out saddle tension. I don't think it's the handle-bars. It sounds somewhere below the tire level. Other than that, my gear is working great. I returned on of the shorts, being the worst of the oldest 2. The best of the two isn't as well fit as the new pair of shorts that I recently purchased. As for the Spooktacular ride, my physical condition seems to be in favor. But I won't know for sure until I do another SS ride. and even then, I might have stomach problems and mental preparation. My plan is to wait till Thursday. But I also want to do a bit of Recon by car to see if the construction zone is complete.
