Staying at temp pace is new to me so didn’t use timer and instead just walked when it got to zone 4. Ibserved that the a watch didn’t alert me that I was in to zone 4 until it got to 4.2 about 152 beats. If I really wanted to keep it lower I would set the watch to alert me at 150 soni would have to set the desired heart rate max to 3.8 I think or 148? But also, I realized towards the end of my run that it is a good exercise to pay more attention to my exertion level and slow down or walk when I t gets past that “sweet spot” I tested this out and my perception of exertion was pretty good - I would slow down about 3.8. The tricky part was understanding when I was ready to run - I’d like to try this again soon. Not sure how often I should do a tempo run- but TEMPO is THE SWEET ZONE- zone 2 is a little boring - zone 3 is what I want to be able to run a half marathon at. BUT I realized this today - while zone 3 is wonderful - I think I couldn’t sustain that pace for 13 miles yet - also while zone 2 is boring - I do think it is necessary for my long runs - maybe once I get to the 13 miles - i will start adding temp pace intervals - maybe one at a time- ALSO - realized that once I get comfortable running/walking to my RPE in zone 3 I think I will be ready to start running with a group and I think ideally I would do a zone 2 run before the group run then do a tempo run with th e group?
