5 join me for my trip to the newly refurbished Queen’s head at old Chesham Lilo, Bob, John Mac, Alan P & Bernie ‘the bolt’ Green.
First stop was the Croxley café. Apart from a brief stop at the barn between Ricky and Croxley to hear John Mac’s lecture on the history of this ancient building.
On leaving the café John broke his key in the lock that was securing his bike together with Alan’s & Bob’s. A bit of panic ensued as we searched for some way to release the bikes.
Step forward Bernie who displayed near super-human strength as he tore the cable with his bare hands as if it were just a piece of ribbon. Who needs a bolt cutter when you have the Bolt himself?
We stood in astonishment as he liberated the stricken bicycles and saved the day.
My route to Chesham took us through some wonderful countryside around Sarrett & Flaunden plotting a route that incorporated as many hills as I could find with spectacular views in the Autumnal sunshine.
The newly refurbished Queen’s head did not disappoint with their usual prompt service and excellent food (and beer).
On John’s suggestion we took the return journey via Pednor & Hebert's Hole which made an interesting detour. Our tea stop was at Rickmanswoth John and Bob bailed out before this at Little Chalfont.
Lilo & I returned via Harefield whilst Alan & Bernie made their own way home.
Excellent day out albeit a little cold.
Question of the day: Does Bernie sprinkle anabolic steroids on his Weetabix in the morning?
