With temps in the low eighties, sun blazing down, and a dewpoint of 73, it is no wonder that Gina had to stop at mile 22 lest she suffer heat stroke! Other than my leaden legs, the result of yet another cholesterol-bomb breakfast, the heat was not so bad for me as long as we kept riding, availing ourselves of the modestly cooling breeze. Once stopped to attend to Gina’s distress, things got uncomfortably toasty for me as well. If the heat were not a significant enough challenge, the oblivious pedestrians on the path, donning headphones and looking at their effin’ phones, posed a significant danger not only themselves but to everyone unfortunate enough to be around them! Luckily, we made it home without incident, and can now cool off in the thankfully cool, air-conditioned house.
