Sonny couldn't ride yesterday and I was planning for us to ride today but Bob wasn't sure he could ride today. Then Sonny couldn't ride and I hadn't heard from Bob so I thought we weren't riding.
Then Bob texted me just as I was about to have breakfast that he could ride. I was in lounge mode about to ease into my day and had to quickly get ready. He said he'd be by in about an hour to give me time to get ready. I assumed he was riding over (and had a plan for the ride we were going to do) but he showed up in his car.
That's when I realized, we have no route planned. :) I wanted to go north to Melissas Taqueria last weekend so we decided to do that but I didn't have the route on my Garmin. I tried searching for it but I had several versions trying out different ways but I couldn't find the one we wanted so I decided to wing it.
For the most part, I remembered the way and we made it to San Bruno when Bob was starting to get hangry. That's when we made the decision to skip San Bruno Mountain and go more directly to Melissas.
Doing so meant riding some industrial roads and roads I'd normally avoid. There wasn't anything really terrible just not terribly scenic. This is when I realized today's ride was the opposite of yesterday's. Instead of being on back roads in nature, among the redwoods, we were among auto body shops and other industrial buildings on urban streets.
Also unlike yesterday where it was cloudy and wet, today was sunny and warmer. Also windier unfortunately. I guess because of the wind direction, there were many times when it felt like we were getting a headwind no matter what direction we were going.
On the way back, we decided to get some gelato in San Carlos. I was sitting on the curb eating mine when Bob showed up with his Disneyland turkey leg-sized cone. It was pretty funny.
Since we had taken so many crappy, busy, industrial roads already, I figured, why not just return on Ralston instead of the quieter (but climbier) way I normally go.
