2 1/2 hrs to cover the first 50 miles! Dragon 🐉 was laying down 🫡 Warp 9 ⚡️
Today put me back in my road bike racing days.
There was 35 to 45 riders! 4-5 were fast women! The pace right from the start was 25 mph and touching 30 at times. The pack split into after just a couple miles and I was 5-6 from the front.
I was surprised at how at ease I felt riding at such high speeds in close quarters as if I’d never left road racing.
This was very different from how chasing and catching pelotons of riders like I normally do on weekends.
I felt at home!
I didn’t see Erik Pippins who invited me to the ride so I dropped back to the second group to see if I could find him. Nope!
Oddly they pulled off into a Starbucks off PCH for a coffee and bagel break.
I pack all the calories and water I need. So I took off and got all the climbing out of the way which is my achilles when riding with roadies as my trike with 2 full hydration packs probably weighs as much as 4 carbon road bikes.
It was affirming to see so many ogling at how it’s possible for a recumbent trike could go head to head with there feather light $10,000 weightless bikes! 😊☺️
Once I dropped off RBC riders I was with at Yorba Regional Park the temperature zoomed up above 100 degrees quickly and zapped the speed right out of me. So I’m sure I toasted my record pace average because of that bit.
I did man to still have a couple cups of mango 🥭 juice and water in each 2L or 85 oz bladder by the time got home.
Downed a full cold coconut water as I dizzily stumbled in the door as I could tell the sudden stop sent my core temperature into the danger zone!
Once my core temperature came downen took a warm shower and spread some towels on my bed and sprawled out in front of the tower fan.
Feel much better now.
Best riding day in decades!

You were rolling! Sorry about your episode after arriving home. That sounds really scary but is probably common after riding in such high temperatures.
I’m happy that you knew exactly what to do in order to recover. Sending ❤️
