Wednesday dawned grey, damp, and windy but nine Loiterers turned up at Uxbridge for today’s rides. The forecast was for heavy rain and more wind so after a discussion it was agreed that all present would follow Brian on his short ride.
Margaret, Bernie G, Steve T, John Wo, Paul, Terry, Phil, and I followed Brian out of Uxbridge to Denham and on to Harefield and elevenses at the Kings Arms that had opened early for us. Dave T joined us for coffee looking exceedingly warm and dry due to him having driven there!
On leaving the warmth of the pub Paul and John left us and the rain had got heavier so Brian made an executive decision to shorten the route and head straight to Horn Hill and an early lunch at The Dumb Bell, I didn’t hear any objections. The route took us straight down Park Lane, over the canal to West Hyde and crossing the North Orbital Road to Horn Hill Lane and the sanctuary of The Dumb Bell where we even managed to park the bikes in the dry. Phil and Terry left us to return home for lunch and we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the pub.
After lunch the rain seemed heavier as we set out along Rickmansworth Lane and on reaching Chesham Lane we found ourselves heading into the gusting wind as we cycled towards Denham and on to Uxbridge where we dispersed.
All this just goes to show that you don’t have to mad to be a Loiterer but at times it certainly helps.
