I'm sorry Pescadero, it's not you, it's me. I think we should take a break. See other roads.
Bob and Sonny decided they wanted to do Pescadero Loop... AGAIN! We've done this loop so many times, the thought of us doing it again brings me dread rather than joy and I don't want to do something that doesn't bring me joy.
So I could get home in time to go to a BBQ, I decided to park in Woodside instead of starting from Bob's.
It was cloudy and cold at the start and I almost turned around to grab my jacket. I had brought a vest and arm warmers and it wasn't the right call. After Mountain Home, the sun came out and it was so much warmer.
While I was waiting at the base of OLH for Bob and Sonny, Derek and his roommate Sarah (sp?) rolled up. They started ahead of us as the boys were a bit late but we would keep crossing paths throughout the day as they were also do the Pescadero Loop.
On the way up OLH, Bob chose to pace behind this girl in a Bicycle Law kit. When we got to the bottom of WOLH, Derek passed us as we waiting at the side of Hwy 84.
They had a head start but I told Bob that it was his mission to catch them. It's the most fun I've had descending 84 in a long, long, time. Right as we got to the bottom in La Honda, we could see them up ahead by the convenience store in the distance and we eventually caught them just before the turn to Pescadero Creek Rd. Unfortunately Sonny missed the train at the top and was way back.
Derek took off up Haskins but at the top, I decided to try and catch them. There was also a group catching us and I didn't want them ruining my descent either.
I never did catch them and eventually slowed down around the Loma Mar Store but down there the wind was making it quite chilly so I sped up again to wait for Bob and Sonny in the sun.
Out in Pescadero it was overcast again and windy. I regretted not bringing the jacket instead. In these conditions, it's better than the warmers and vest.
We crossed paths once more with Derek and then again in San Gregorio where they were having a snack and I stopped to take the layers off. Bob and Sonny had continued on so I took off after them and found them at the Bike Hut. This is where Derek passed us and we saw each other for the last time.
Bob was feeling much better climbing up Tunitas than last week. At the top we found Irene and Anthony and the popsicle lady. Naturally we had to get one.
The descent of Kings was going so well until some idiot pickup going around one of the hairpins decided the only we they could make it around was completely straddling the center line and driving halfway in to my lane. It wasn't even a large pickup but a compact. IDIOT!
And then after Huddart, I got stuck behind slow cars and really ruined the descent. It was not a good way to end the ride and probably didn't do the loop any favors in terms of making me enjoy it more when I already find it so boring and meh.
