Farley 9.6. Overcast, cold - hovered right around freezing, humid and NW winds @ 8-10 mph. Started in Ottawa at the Fox River Park @ 11:15 am heading West. Rode out to the West end at Peru. Fairly mild headwind for the entire way out, a bit of tailwind on the return.
Only saw 3 walkers and 1 other rider near the end, so pretty quiet ride. No critters spotted either, so I guess it was too cold for them as well. Just had a snack before and after the ride so no stop for lunch or rehydration. I don't usually head West on this trail as it gets pretty sloppy after rain but today it was in great shape.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.

Looks like a decent trail. OK for cross bikes (assuming it's dry)?
Sure thing - I've been riding it on the gravel bikes for years. It definitely is not good when wet and there is frequent flooding during a wet Spring but you can go around those sections by road. Ottawa to Marseilles is the section most likely to flood. Downed trees can also be an issue. The state seems to do almost no trail maintenance, even though it's a State Park.
A better option is the Hennepin Canal trail (also a State Park), runs from Bureau Junction West to the Rock River in Colona, IL. There's also a Feeder trail that runs from the Rock River in Sterling/Rock Falls down to the Hennepin Canal near Mineral, IL. Both of these are better maintained by the State.
