Got some noodles for breakfast at a Michelin Recommended place. They were good but they weren't amazing. The roadside noodles we had near Pa Pae were just as good.
On they way over I didn't put my shoelaces in their little elastic holder so they were swinging free and one of them actually got wound up in my pedal.
The second Michelin Recommended spot was better. Not really sure what they were. Rice noodle and tapioca dessert thingies. :) Again not sure it deserves a recommendation. It was good but not amazing.
Then we saw some ruins, picked up our laundry, and rode a long a cute little revitalized canal area before returning to drop off the laundry.
Had a little fruit break before heading out for round 2. Emily managed to get "bit" by the snake fruit she was peeling. I learned from her lesson and peeled mine very carefully.
We finally solved one of our mysteries. We remembered Emily saying, "WHAT THE HECK?!?!?!" but couldn't remember in what context. After dropping off our laundry to do the climb up to Doi Suthep we saw the same dog wearing a blue shirt with an apron and yellow bow that prompted Emily to say that the day we got back to the homestay after doing The Lanna Kingdom route.
Round 2 we went to climb the local OLH/Hawk Hill. It was long but the grade and road surface was nice. Also nice that on the way up, there were two lanes so plenty of buffer from the cars most of the time. We passed a snake wriggling along at the edge of the road. Emily didn't see it and I wasn't sure what was going on at first. It was just a slightly bright green than the grass and leaves it was wriggling next to. The sound of it moving along the pavement gave it away.
Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a view at the top of the segment we did. Probably needed to go all the way up for that. That said, it seemed smoggy from the glimpses of the view we saw on the way up and there wasn't much of view anyway.
On the way down we were stuck behind a line of cars held up by a taxi. I didn't want to sprint past them and leave Emily behind but when she said she wanted to pass them, it was go time! It didn't take long to have clear road in front of us and really enjoy the descent.
Like China, we're pretty used to riding in traffic here which can be quite horrible. At one point, a van passed Emily really closely - a stupid move on their part. At first we were just riding normally after it passed but then Emily started to speed up and I was thinking, "Here we go. She's going after that guy and something's about to go down." We passed the van back and squeezed it at choke point in the road so Emily could assert her dominance over that thundercunt.
We hit yet another farmer's/night market to get lunch. This one seemed a little fancier and more expensive. Not good since we had limited funds left, trying to not withdraw, or exchange for, any more baht.
We finished off the trip with our most expensive dinner at the Michelin Recommended, The House by Ginger.
The Banana Honey Milkshake, Deep-Fried Prawn Cakes and Deep-Fried Curried Banana Blossom appetizers, and Duck Confit were great. The Stir Fried Chinese Kale with Crispy Pork Belly and the Beef Tallow Fried Rice with Grilled New Zealand Sirloin were just okay. The pork belly was a little tough and the sirloin wasn’t super flavorful.
