I had planned to ride north for some Melissas Taqueria but my cravings had been so strong, I already had a burrito yesterday for lunch. My next thought was to go to Sweet Passion Bakery for some sausage rolls.
It had rained overnight so I kinda wanted to let the roads dry a bit but really my lungs were feeling a bit congested from my cold and I wasn't feeling up to it. I decided to pivot and go shoe shopping for Ali's birthday run and maybe do a shorter ride later when Emily texted me and all of a sudden we're riding Hawk Hill in the afternoon to catch what was supposed to be a very pretty sunset.
This worked out as I got to drive up for sausage rolls, go to Sports Basement to get some shoes AND ride. When I have no defined goal, or many goals and no priorities, I end up spinning my wheels trying to decide what to do. But when I have an end goal in mind, all the pieces fall into place and in order pretty quickly.
Timing-wise and parking-wise it also worked out perfectly. I found parking immediately for all three stops and spent exactly the right amounts of time to get to Emily's on time.
On Day 4 of our China trip, Emily had picked up a stress toy at a convenience store. It was Nailong the Milk Dragon. We didn't know anything about the character at the time or that there's an animated series for it. Emily just named him Henry.
Post trip, I found various Henrys on AliExpress that just seemed to perfect not to get. The latest ones arrived today actually. Perfect timing. A squishy, stress toy material, Henry with goggles and a camera, and two other smaller, harder plastic ones of him with Band-Aids and the other making a taunting face.
Emily's road bike was in the shop but ready for pick up so we went over to Box Dog Bikes to get it first. She grabbed a bikeshare but on the way over realized she didn't bring a water bottle or lights. Important foreshadowing.
Henry's goggles are a little precarious. They come separate and you put them on his head but the plastic, even though it's squishy, is slippery. And the elastic for the goggles is pretty tight so if it's not low enough on his head, it'll pop off.
He made it all the way to the shop fine but riding through the city afterward they popped off. We turned around to get them when a car started to drive towards the fallen goggles. I yelled, "STOP!!!" pretty loudly but the lady kept driving. It looked like they were going to be squashed but Emily edged towards the car to "push" it just enough to miss them. The goggles went in the bar bag for the rest of the ride.
She asked me for water several times, each time drinking quite a lot and I only had the one bottle filled with Skratch mix. I thought it was pretty funny since I think one of the times she asked for a sip and drank about 1/4 of the bottle. :)
We did a full Fatcake Headlands loop and got to Rodeo Beach right at sunset. Emily's app said it was going to be good but when I was first driving over, it looked too overcast to be nice and even during the ride over it was looking like it wasn't going to happen but I ended up being wrong fortunately.
We both probably took way too many photos before heading back in the dark. Luckily I had my lights which are bright enough for the both of us.
Stopped off at RT Rotisserie to grab dinner which sparked a very long conversation with many, many, tangents that branched off before we finished our original points.
What started it off for me was the rotisserie chicken sandwich I got was filled with dry white meat. I'm 100% a dark meat person and when I think of rotisserie chicken, I think of dark meat so the sandwich's meat was a surprise - an unpleasant surprise.
That lead to the question about why white over dark? What are the nutritional differences? That lead to cholesterol, and Goonies in space, and something that could get Emily canceled but I couldn't remember what she said anymore. :)
Good times!
