All climbing into a growing head wind to half way to Palm Springs then a long down hill but also into a head wind! Ben Rodriguez tracked me along the way via the RWGPS link I sent this morning and surprised me with a meet up at Banning! He rode with me to PS. I finally breached the dirt section coming out Banning to get to the abandoned original roadway that parallels the I-10 freeway. It was like riding thru a mine field full of explosion holes, massive cracks and we even had to ride through a water crossing at one point. Turned around at PS city limits as I needed to get back through San Timeteo Canyon before dark. What I didn’t figure was the possibility of the wind doing a complete reversal and becoming a gale force head wind coming back! I literally had to drop to my 36 x 33 to keep moving forwards! The back towards Banning is all uphill but I figured if we had a nice tailwind we could bang out 18-20 mph to get Ben home by 4 for his dinner date at his sons and I could take the longer routes over through Redlands and spin it on home just after dark. Ben with his e-assist got to the Morongo Indian casino complex before I did and called offering me a ride as his wife was coming to pick him up. I decided to reach out to my wife and mother in law to see if if they were available for a ride from Morongo? They are on their way. So I over shot this one and still managed too get in some quality miles beforee the weather went all weird. Temps are dropping rapidly as the rain front moves in from the west - northwest. Had to put my warm gear back on as I was going hyperthermic with run away chills and shaking. I’ll wait until the longer days are back to do this again and ride up to the Tramway.
