Super nice day temperatures and sunshine ☀️ upoer 40’s at start about 730am got a couple miles away and realized I’d rode off without my heart rate chest sensor so had to uturn and go fetch it. rose to the mid 60’s by the coast and almost 80 back inland.
There was a bad bike crash on the SART a few miles before The ARTIC Bus Depot. Looked like a guy in a 6+ man peloton overlapped wheels with his lead guy and did a face plant into the asphalt and slid into the gravel face first and could not move his body. A rider was on the phone with 911 as I stopped to see if anyone had made the call yet.
One must never overlap wheels in a pace line or when drafting another. I survived a few of these in my early race days before I learned my lesson and also never assumed the riders ahead of you won’t maker this mistake and take everyone behinds them down. Been there too! Stay frosty and have epic moments to remember and not near or actual fatalities!
Stopped at Balboa Harbor… it was surreally beautiful 😍 Tooks some pictures, ate lots f dates, realized my small power bank I use to top off my phone while it tracks my ride for lots of followers had power but either its port or power cord is bad.
So I had to abort the going to Huntington Beach next then home so I could get home before the phone died.
Coming into my driveway I asked SIRI what’s the power level of my battery? 🪫 It said 1%!
Bike road beautifully 😊 New
Custom Quadlock phone mount works pretty good.
Heat took the power out of my legs a few miles before Yorba Regional Park today. Need more heat training.
Had several riders attempt to pull “Fly Byes” on me. All ended up getting dropped.
A fly byes is when someone chases you down then gives you that look as they fly by and then glance over their shoulder a few feet ahead. I always wait until they’d completed that little ritual then light the afterburners to catch, sit in their draft for a bit, then afterburner them Bye Bye 👋 and keep on accelerating until they either break - blow up anerobically, or as with one of them today… A guy on a Litespeeds titanium bike. I waited until about 100m to PCH on the SART as he tried to to ride me off his wheel and lit a full blown sprint. He had nothing….
