#11 in the Face Value Series. Again, not aptly named because, while I wasn't always hauling ass, there were moments I was moving at a pretty decent clip. Like about the time I saw the coyote traversing Toro Creek Road about Mile 14 and, given the rise in blood pressure and the cool breeze that removed a lot of the inland heat, there was what could be considered a bit of a sprint. One thing I want to mention about Harmony: There is now a white old-fashioned dairy truck serving small batch ice cream between 12-4 every day. Since I was done by 11:15, I headed to lunch in Cambria (Soto's!) instead of waiting, but made mental note to one day just find myself in this little community of 18 souls some afternoon and watch the world go by with a cone. Highlights: Passing my pal Kevin C's entourage pedaling north from SLO while I was downhilling south near Harmony Highland beach access trail. Another was the post-ride discussion with the retired Fire Captain from Missouri, waiting for his wife to finish shopping before they overnighted in Pismo, in which we talked about what what it takes to influence our respective brains to get in the saddle. He is obligated to pedal the stationary in the basement of his home because there is no safe and open roads until the rails-to-trails people finish up their conversion of track near his town of Rosebud. Gotta tell ya, I ain't moving to Rosebud anytime soon; happy to be in Harmony and Cayucos....
