Probably one of the last spins on a trusty warhorse that's served me nearly 9 years. A highly modified (drops, Microshift R9 1x, electric assist) Reid Urban X2, "Buster" has been my tourer and commuter for quite a few thousand kilometres in that time. The e-conversion, done last year makes what was once a sporty bike feel like an SUV, handling-wise but was essential to compensate for lost power due to a heart attack in 2020. Even though it has a theoretical 60km range, it never really gave me much range back, just removed the risk of overcranking my heart rate. Presently, 25km is still my range limit on a good day, if I want to ride tomorrow and tomorrow, etc. And to get this bike riding shiny would cost more than the original fit and fitting cost, so I'm moving to a recumbent trike - no energy spent on balancing, way better electrics and way better aerodynamics. Ironically way more expensive than new group and kit for buster, but hey, what's an old "weird beard" to do? Switch to a pedal powered, electric assist lawn chair? Why dafaq not! ;-)
